Planting pistachio seeds in the main Iranian Pistachio land
In fields with fresh water and soil, the germinated seeds intended for planting are sown in the hot ground of the main ground water after the soil has been plowed (reaching the field capacity). If the soil texture of the field is heavy, the inside of each pit is covered with sand in order to seal the seeds.
This helps the plant to grow, because not only does it provide enough oxygen to the roots of the seedlings, but it also activates the beneficial aerobic organisms in the soil. Seed sowing depth depends on seed size (approximate sowing depth is about 2 to 5 times the largest seed diameter).
Planting pistachio seedlings in the treasury
The ground of the pistachio treasury, like the treasury of other trees, must be prepared. Seed spacing is 5 to 10 cm on the lines and 35 to 40 cm between the lines. After sowing the seeds, they are covered with aerated sand along with animal manure and irrigated. The amount of pistachio seeds consumed per hectare in the nursery is 250 to 300 kg and about 250,000 seedlings per hectare can be produced.
Produced seedlings in dormant season (autumn and winter) are ready to be transferred to the main land (aual seedlings). As the age of seedlings in the nursery increases, it is done once due to the expansion of the root system and the complexity of the roots of the seedlings and the inaccuracy in digging and moving the seedlings to the main ground and cutting the roots.
Corridors are usually installed in the treasury at intervals of 1.5 to 2 meters, which helps the commuters to remove weeds and carry out irrigation operations and, if necessary, transplant seedlings. If the floor of the treasury is carpeted with cement or mosaic, it prevents the vertical growth of the roots. Therefore, seedlings will be easier to move and their losses will be less.
